PAINWeek 2013 Session Spotlight: Michael R. Clark

TedJones“The Madwoman in the Attic”: Chronic Pain and Borderline Personality Disorder

Patients with chronic pain, and who also suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder present special challenges to the practicing clinician. In his course presentation, “The Madwoman in the Attic”, veteran PAINWeek faculty member Michael R. Clark, MD, MPH, MBA, will explore the ways in which patients with personality disorders evoke a variety of feelings in clinicians. While some may seize the challenge, others are more likely to decide these patients are at least difficult and at most not worth the trouble. “Certainly, they are difficult cases, but practical strategies for management will be presented.” said Dr. Clark. “When successfully engaged, the care of these patients can be remarkably rewarding.”
