Why Skin Matters

Although many providers have experience in advising their patients to use topical analgesics for treatment of various types of acute and chronic pain conditions, there are new insights into just how important the skin is in evaluating and treating people with chronic pain. In this translational session, basic science data will be presented in a clinically relevant manner, describing how keratinocytes and other skin structures play an active role in the development of pain as well as potentially in identifying best treatments for patients. The results of several recently completed trials will be presented, and application of such knowledge to practice will be addressed. (Recorded at PAINWeek 2016)
