The PAINWeek 2012 national conference will devote a full-day track examining the connection between diabetes and chronic pain conditions.
Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) December 14, 2011
PAINWeek, the national conference on pain for frontline practitioners, today announced significant enhancements to the 2012 course agenda with a new therapeutic track that explores the management of pain conditions often associated with diabetes. Debra Weiner, Director of Program Development for PAINWeek observed, "The connection between diabetes and pain is rarely addressed, and PAINWeek is excited to be taking the lead in providing new course content to our attendees in this important arena of pain management."
The American Diabetes Association reports that about 50% of people with diabetes have some form of nerve damage, known as diabetic neuropathy. Effective management of peripheral neuropathic pain is one of the diabetes-related conditions to be addressed at next year's PAINWeek, scheduled to convene for the 6th consecutive year from September 5-8, 2012, at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Other additions to the program curriculum in this arena include:
These new course offerings will further augment the annual offering of approximately 12 different tracks in the PAINWeek curriculum, the most comprehensive curriculum of pain management available.
In 2011, PAINWeek registered over 1500 healthcare practitioners from a variety of medical specialties, compelling evidence of the significant interest in pain management by frontline clinicians. Faculty member Sean Mackey, MD, Chief, Division of Pain Management at Stanford University School of Medicine observed, "We have 116,000,000 Americans suffering from chronic pain. We have only several thousand pain specialists. There is simply not enough to go around. Primary care physicians are the ones who are seeing these patients first. PAINWeek does a great job in educating primary care specialists about contemporary topics in pain medicine and pain management. I applaud their efforts."
