The Rural Pain Crisis: Strategies for Ameliorating Patient Suffering and Maintaining Provider Sanity

While all pain practitioners are faced with growing dilemmas in their practices, those treating pain patients in underserved rural areas struggle with limited resources and a particularly challenging patient population. This presentation identifies and addresses these challenges, offering specific strategies for working with suffering individuals in rural areas, emphasizing the imperative of “thinking outside of the box” in order to increase the treatment options available. Needs of providers as well as those of pain patients in rural areas are addressed.
