PAINWEEK–END–EX60[87]-01

Live Education for the Main Street Practitioner

Pain Management for the Main Street Practitioner

Pain is the primary reason Americans seek healthcare. An aging population and radical expansion in health insurance coverage will converge to keep pain at the forefront of patient presentations. And the rapidly evolving regulatory environment in medication risk management has new and complex implications for patients and practitioners alike.

PAINWeekEnd conferences are 1- or 2-day regional meetings comprised of certified and noncertified activities that address a range of clinical and practice management areas of interest. Product, Disease Awareness, and Medical Information (PDM) sessions complement the curriculum by providing cutting-edge information, research, and education from our industry partners.

Upcoming Conferences

The spring series has concluded. Check back soon for our fall schedule.

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of frontline clinicians: physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists involved in the treatment of patients with pain.

Reasons to Attend

  • Whether you're in a hospital or office-based practice, chronic pain patients are everywhere—and YOU are absorbing the burden of their care.
  • PAINWeekEnd has been created to streamline the clutter of information on assessment, evolving guidelines, risk management, changing reimbursement scenarios, and administrative and criminal cases against healthcare professionals.

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of frontline clinicians: physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists involved in managing acute and chronic pain.

Statement of Need/Program Overview

Whether you're in a hospital or office-based practice, chronic pain patients are everywhere—and YOU are absorbing the burden of their care.

A report by the National Institutes of Health outlines positive steps that practitioners can take in response to the burgeoning problem of prescription medication abuse and to provide more effective pain management care to their patients. Key among these is access to pain education, and by participating in a PAINWeekEnd Conference, you'll improve your skills in medication risk evaluation and mitigation, in pain assessment and diagnosis, and in the delivery of individualized multimodal treatment.

The PAINWeekEnd agenda is purposely constructed for the busy clinician, delivering a full day of relevant, practical information, together with the opportunity for interaction and exchange with faculty and fellow attendees.

Pain Management for the Main Street Practitioner has been created to streamline the clutter of information on assessment, evolving guidelines, risk management, and changing reimbursement scenarios. Join us for a day of clinical and practice management CE/CME designed expressly for frontline clinicians. Participants can receive 6.0-12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ as they expand their capabilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of chronic pain conditions.

Millions of Americans suffer from persistent chronic pain. But the escalating crisis of prescription medication abuse and diversion has affected every aspect of pain management practice. Many clinicians also admit that their training and education did not prepare them well for pain management. We believe that primary care clinicians are on the frontline of this major public health issue, and are the ones expected to reduce the burden of suffering and provide a better quality of life for chronic pain patients.

To receive credit, you must complete the online course evaluation form that will be emailed to you 3 to 5 days after the conference. After you complete the evaluation, your CME certificate will be available for download. Please note, you'll want to ensure you've clicked the check box in front of each session you attended so that you receive the correct number of credits.

PAINWeekEnd courses are certified for physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, nursing, and pharmacy credits.

Pharmacy learners will not receive a credit certificate. However, it is still critical that you complete your online evaluation within 30 days of receiving it. Credit will then be uploaded to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) CPE Monitor Service. During registration, please remember to provide your NABP eProfile ID number and date of birth.

Many PAINWeekEnd courses do offer pharmacology credit hours. To view available credit on our website, select the city, scroll to the daily agenda, then click on the course name.

During the online registration process you will have the option of indicating a vegetarian meal option. Please note that if you are registering less than 72 hours prior to a conference, we may be unable to provide this option.

No, you will not receive CME/CE credit for attending a PDM program. You may still be requested to complete an evaluation form, but you will not receive a credit certificate. If you are unsure whether a course is certified for credit, please refer to the program book or ask an onsite staff member.

As a registered PAINWeekEnd conference attendee, you are automatically preregistered for all PDM programs. You will be asked to scan your badge as you enter the program. Please note that nonhealthcare providers are generally not allowed admittance to these promotional programs.

Many PAINWeekEnd courses do offer pharmacology credit hours. To view available credit on our website, select the city, scroll to the daily agenda, then click on the course name.

In order to receive credit, attendees must complete the online evaluation. A link was emailed to you following the conference, but depending on your email server it may have gone into junk, spam, or clutter folders. Gmail users, please check your promotions folder on a desktop computer. If you are still unable to locate this email, please contact us at info@painweek.org.

While we encourage you to attend the entire PAINWeekEnd conference to get the most out of the program, we do understand there might be scheduling conflicts. Participants will receive credit for all courses that they fully attended. For example, if you were only able to attend 4 out of the 6 courses, you will receive 4 credit hours.

Please note, we are unable to offer partial credit for attending a course. For example, if you were only able to attend 30 minutes of a 1-hour course, you will not be able to claim 0.5 credit hours.

Since most attendees do not need a hotel room, we do not have the leverage to negotiate for a discount rate. Please contact the hotels directly. (Since we have a small block of rooms for our speakers and staff, it is important you do not ask for rooms in the PAINWeek block; just make a normal reservation.) You will find the conference venue at the top of the agenda on our website.

Bring an open mind ready to learn! We also recommend bringing a sweater or light coat as there are temperature fluctuations in the meeting space during the day. You are welcome to bring laptops and tablets. Please note, however, that we are unable to provide WiFi internet. Electrical outlets are also not readily available so be sure to remember to charge up your devices or bring extra batteries. Pens and notepads will be provided.

Due to the professional nature of the conference, friends and family members who are not medical professionals will not be permitted to attend. If your friend or family member is a medical professional, please have them register prior to the conference.

PAINWeekEnd conferences are purposely designed to be smaller in scale compared to our national conference, and we are limited by the number of exhibit tables available. PAINWeekEnd events are promoted to frontline practitioners in each geographical area.

We are always looking for engaging new speakers. Typically, most PAINWeekEnd speakers are recruited from our PAINWeek National Conference. To be considered, please email info@painweek.org with your full name, degree(s), profession, current employer or current educational affiliation, suggested course title, a 200 word or less course description, and 3 to 5 learning objectives. Please also attach a curriculum vitae (CV) and include names of other conferences at which you've spoken.

Please note that most speaking opportunities for the current year have already been assigned so the next available slot might not be until the following year.

Cancellations received online or in writing 14 or more days before the start of the meeting will be refunded, less a $50 service charge per attendee. No refund will be made less than 14 days prior to the start of the meeting. You may transfer your PAINWeekEnd registration to a colleague, a different PAINWeekEnd, or a future meeting until 7 days prior to the start of the meeting with the payment of a $50 service charge.

PAINWeekEnd understands that extreme weather conditions, employment issues, and family and personal issues arise that may prevent you from attending PAINWeekEnd. In these cases, please contact us prior to start of the conference for refund consideration. We regret we cannot accommodate any requests for refunds after the conference has started. We encourage you to procure travel insurance to cover any travel costs incurred in the event that you need to cancel attendance.
