Program Description
This interactive program is framed around the principles of the NIPC® Critical Thinking Model for Chronic Opioid Therapy. Integrating these principles into your practice can aid in responsibly and appropriately prescribing opioids, fostering compliance with state and federal regulations, and optimizing analgesia for your patients. This symposium will utilize audience response technology (ARS) to encourage ongoing interaction between you, the expert faculty, and your colleagues.
The following meeting materials will be distributed at this activity:
- A participant guide that includes the entire slide curriculum presented at the live program
- A physician tool that delineates key components for each patient interaction when prescribing opioid analgesics for moderate to severe pain
- A patient tool that will help people with pain stay on top of their pain treatment plan and understand prescribing guidelines
Learning Objectives
This activity has been planned in accordance with the need to educate healthcare professionals on strategies for improving assessment, treatment, and management of individuals with pain receiving opioid therapy; and overcoming barriers that hinder appropriate care for individuals with pain.
After completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Apply critical thinking strategies to optimize analgesia and facilitate safe use of opioid therapy in clinical practice
- Integrate sound principles of opioid prescribing and documentation into daily practice to foster compliance with state medical boards, governmental agencies, and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS)
- Engage in patient communications that underscore safe and appropriate use of opioid analgesics and minimize potential adverse events
