Sleep Impairment and Chronic Pain: Cause and Effect?

An article in the December issue of The Journal of Pain reviews the body of existing literature to better understand the directionality and mechanisms of association between sleep and pain. While the preponderance of study data suggest that sleep impairments are a more reliable predictor of pain than the reverse, the authors identify targets for future study that may lead to a more complete understanding of the relationship.
