Presence of Trunk Pain Exacerbates Low Back Pain and Disability

A study reported online in the journal Pain found that patients with low back pain experienced significantly worse pain and higher levels of disability, if concurrently suffering with anterior trunk pain. The research speculates that visceral referred pain may contribute to the association, and posits that distinguishing between visceral pain and musculoskeletal pain in the anterior trunk could be clinically important in determining appropriate courses of therapy.
