One in 5 Australians Live With Chronic Pain

The Institute of Medicine and its Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education, and Research report has made most of us aware that approximately 100 million Americans live with chronic pain. We are not alone. According to a study presented at the Blackmores Institute Symposium by Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett, Director of Boston Medical Center’s Integrative Medicine Services, 1 in 5 Australians live in chronic pain. That’s 7 million people suffering from at least one chronic condition.

At the 2015 Symposium, Dr. Barnett will discuss complementary and integrative medicine research and how it relates to patient care. The study showed integrative medicine—shared care, evidence based complementary medicine, and relief therapies—can significantly help relieve, prevent, or manage chronic pain.
