We have substantial and pertinent news for PAINWeek attendees and all pain management practitioners: The federal government just announced a significant update to their opioid overdose toolkit. For the first time, the government is recommending the coprescription of naloxone, including Evzio®, for chronic pain patients on high doses of opioids and patients on certain opioid preparations, such as extended-release/long-acting preparations. This update provides a comprehensive resource for all stakeholders involved, including prescribers.
Despite some lingering opposition, more politicians, from both sides of the aisle, are voting yes to laws expanded access. This new toolkit resource addresses legal/liability concerns head on and provides medical claim billing/coding recommendations for patient counseling on overdose and naloxone training.
