Chronic Pain and Chronic Anxiety: The Impact of Pediatric Functional Abdominal Pain

Recent study findings published in the journal Pediatrics found a high risk for lifetime anxiety disorders among pediatric patients with functional abdominal pain, even when this condition resolves in childhood.  While it’s been long known that children with functional abdominal pain are more likely than others to have depression and anxiety in childhood, this is the first research to show anxiety follows them into adulthood.
