My Personal Journey—12 Steps to Recovery

Dr. Heit will describe the life-changing personal event that led to him becoming both a pain healthcare provider and chronic pain patient. Dr. Heit will speak about his 12 steps to recovery (overcoming denial), his experiences as a recognized pain and substance abuse expert with an overt physical disability, and the necessary interventional methods employed to modulate his spasms and discomfort. Through this presentation attendees will develop an appreciation for the concept of the “wounded healer,” examine the life-defining changes coincident with trauma, and experience the metamorphosis of one man during his decade-long search for continued personal meaning and success. Dr. Heit’s presentation will be an inspiring journey that is applicable to all people suffering from chronic pain.
