2011 Scholarship Recipients

Last year’s winner was Karel Schram. Ms. Schram is a physician assistant who works at the Hackley Community Care Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Muskegon, Michigan. Ms. Schram’s essay “Pain is a Pain!” stood out above all of the others to the members of the essay review committee. She wrote about watching patients and loved ones who were under-treated for pain, and how that inspired her to become a patient advocate. She called out for the need for more education about balancing pain relief and risk. Ms. Schram will be honored as part of the welcome ceremony at PAINWeek. Click here read Ms. Schram’s essay.
